Man’s throat nearly slit in Margate street
A Margate resident was attacked by a group of men in Marine Drive on Saturday evening. He was stabbed and they tried to slit his throat. Fanie Olwagen and his wife Esme had just crossed the road from a meeting with residents of a building opposite the Sea Breeze flats where they live. They had discussed rowdy behaviour with the group, and Mr. Olwagen had just opened the safety gate of their flats when he was called back by the group. When he went back, he was attacked. He was helped by bystanders, and taken to hospital, where he is recuperating. Although seriously injured, his jugular vein was not severed, and his friends say he is extremely lucky to be alive. Eyewitnesses told eHowzit the police could have been more helpful, although a charge of attempted murder was eventually laid and a case number registered. eHowzit asked the Margate police for comment, which we should get today.
Residents of Marine Drive have apparently been having trouble with the residents of the specific building being noisy in the street, and vices such as prostitution. It is believed several Nigerians and other foreigners are living in the building.
