Volgens polisiewoordvoerder A/O Madeleine von Wielligh, is ongeveer 40 stuks stoetdiere tot dusver op die plaas gesteel en geslag.

Luidens ‘n nuusverklaring deur Willie Clack, voorsitter van die Nasionale en Gautengse veeidefstalvoorkomingsforum, word die spesifieke plaas vir jare reeds deur veediewe geteiken, maar dit is veral die afgelope paar maande wat veediewe groot verliese veroorsaak het.

Agri EC responds to Human Rights Commission report on farm attacks in South Africa

Organised agriculture’s national Rural Safety Strategy has come under the spotlight after the Human Rights Commission (HRC) indicated that a decisive effort is needed to curb increasing incidents of farm attacks.

Agri SA has requested a meeting with the Minister of Police to discuss the HRC’s findings and how these, along with the Rural Safety Strategy, will be implemented in the fight against farm attacks.

“It must be clearly understood that land owners and their employees have a constitutional right to safety and security.

“This was again endorsed by the HRC. They found that these rights have undoubtedly been violated,” said Agri EC president Doug Stern.

The commission found that the South African Police Service and the National Prosecuting Authority need to improve their involvement in combating crimes against farming communities.

Stern added that emphasis must be placed on community participation to raise awareness of farm attacks and to improve rural safety.

He said police resources were often spread thinly and placing the burden of rural safety squarely on the shoulders of a handful of officers would benefit no one.

“Where communities are alert there is significant social cohesion and the likelihood of assaults on farm owners and their employees is reduced.

“As things are now, vulnerable communities do not have access to the police when needed, hereby demonstrating the importance of getting involved as soon as possible.”

The HRC’s report identified a need to establish a partnership between the police and the Department of Traditional Affairs to involve and empower traditional leaders in the implementation of government policies revolving around safety and security.

The leaders’ understanding and insight into cultural behaviour in their regions can only be to the benefit of their communities.

“We welcome the recommendations made in the report, especially the recommendation that a special sub-committee be established to develop an action plan to address the issues raised and to engage with the community,” said Stern.

He said Agri EC also welcomed the HRC’s announcement that it will give a progress report in a year’s time on the implementation of all the recommendations.

On Friday, September 11, they were taken in by the Fortoen family in Rewlatch, however, they cannot stay there long as the Fortoen’s are in the process of selling their house. Vicky Fortoen said they took the Boshoff family in because they could no longer see them suffer.

“My daughter, Clare, attended Diversity High School with Tanya and they are friends. They desperately need a place to stay. I know that the COURIER can be their voice and I know someone out there will find it in their heart to assist us by helping them. Drie van die sewe mans wat Sondagmiddag in Zastron in ’n mislukte plaasaanval aangekeer is, is Dinsdag op waarskuwing in die landdroshof in die dorp uitgelaat.

Vier van hul makkers, onder wie twee wat uit was op parool weens moord en verkragting, bly tot hul borgtogaansoek in hegtenis.

Thabo Mafele (25) en Tshotleho Monoana (32), wat op parool is nadat hulle tronkstraf weens onderskeidelik verkragting en moord uitgedien het, het Dinsdagmiddag saam met Ncamile Mankwae (20), Ellis Menziwa (23), Thembinkosi Mafoea (22), Mandla Skele (28) en Tsietsi Phomane (85) in die hof verskyn. Hul verskyning spruit uit ’n gefnuikte plaasaanval Sondagmiddag op die plaas Verlies in die distrik Zastron.

Die vinnige optrede van die boere in die omgewing in samewerking met die polisie het die booswigte se planne in die wiele gery nadat die noodplan geaktiveer is en drie van die mans binne 30 minute aangekeer is.

Volksblad het vroeër berig dat die drie gou aangekeer is nadat Manie Botha (67) ’n man met ’n pistool in die hand na sy woonhuis sien aankom en alarm gemaak het. Nog ’n verdagte is later met die hulp van ’n girokopter opgespoor en aangekeer. Met sy inhegtenisneming is op twee pistole beslag gelê. Een is vroeër vanjaar op ’n plaas in die omgewing gesteel.

Drie mans is later in die informele woonbuurt in die dorp aangekeer.

Mankwae, Mafoea en Phomane is op waarskuwing vrygelaat, terwyl die ander vier mans eers later vandeesmaand om borgtog kan aansoek doen. Dié mans het vlugtig op ’n aanklag van besit van gesteelde goedere, poging tot roof en besit van ’n ongelisensieerde vuurwapen verskyn.

Hulle verskyn weer op 23 September in die hof wanneer Mafele, Monoana, Menziwa en Skele om borgtog kan aansoek doen.

CAPE TOWN – At least two people have died and several others injured after an InterCape bus was petrol bombed on the N2 highway.

It’s understood the petrol bomb was thrown Intercape bus travelling along Onverwacht Road in Strand.

The bus was packed with long-distance travellers.

The motive behind the incident is still unclear.

Mayoral Committee member for safety and security JP Smith says, “Metro Rescue Services as well as ER24 are on the scene and the road has been closed. There’s no indication as to the reason of the attack but it doesn’t appear to be the result of protest action; there are no protests anywhere near the scene. It just too horrible.”

#FarmAttack: Black Attacker Opens Fire on Farmer: Esenembe - Kwazulu Natal

An armed black attacker opened fire on a farmer in Esenembe near Tongaat at approx 13:43 today.

The suspect gained entry to a home and robbed a male resident at gunpoint, taking his phone & personal belongings. The suspect then handed the victim his sim card from his Nokia cellphone. The suspect, an african male, who was attired in a multi colored shirt & blue pants then fled on foot. The victim then ran to a nearby farm & informed a farmer of the robbery. The farmer & victim then drove on a dirt road and noticed a suspect fitting the description. Upon approaching him the suspect drew a 9mm pistol & fired two shots at the farmer. The suspect then fled into the sugar cane plantation.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa, the Umhlali Dog Unit & Tongaat SAPS responded to the scene and cordoned off a large area. Upon request from the Police, the RUSA Helicopter was despatched & combed a vast area while the dog unit search the dense bush.

No arrest were made.

#ATTACK: Elderly ex- soldiers attacked in bed by black attackers armed with two pistols, assault rifle & R4 / R5 in a nature reserve in Pretoria

PRETORIA – Desmond Schmidt (50), oudlid van 31 Bataljon, het sy eie lewe gered deur te doen presies wat die gewapende rowers hom beveel het.

Sersant Desmond Schmidt is Saterdagoggend deur rowers van persoonlike besittings ter waarde van R35 000 by die Rietvlei-natuurreservaat in Pretoria, Sentraal-Transvaal beroof. Desmond, van Bethlehem in die Vrystaat en sowat 60 lede van die bataljon het die naweek by die reservaat se seiljagklub gekuier as deel van hul jaarlikse byeenkoms. Die voorval het omstreeks 03:00 plaasgevind toe hy van ’n flitslig in sy gesig wakker geskrik het.

Die rowers het hom beveel om op sy maag draai en stil te lê. Hulle het toe sy voete met ’n selfoonlaaier se kabel vasgebind en gevra waar sy skootrekenaar is. Die rowers is met onder meer sy selfoon, iPad, trouring, leergordels, ’n batterypak, hardeskyf en drafskoene vort. Sy beursie was gelukkig in sy motor toegesluit.

Adjudant offisier Piet Frankenberg (66), nog ’n lid van 31 Bataljon, het onderin dieselfde chalet geslaap. Sy beursie, selfoon, TV wat hy van die huis saam gebring het om die aand rugby te kyk, en sy oorlede pa se Rolex-horlosie wat in die kombuis gelê het, is ook gesteel.

Volgens adjudant offisier Dave Miller, polisiewoordvoerder, het drie gewapende mans eers werkers in die werkerskwartiere beroof voordat hulle by die chalet ingekom het. Die rowers was met twee pistole en vermoedelik ’n aanvalsgeweer, ’n R4 of R5, gewapen. The noises the ANC is making about pension funds are becoming more ominous, especially seen against the background of the destructive work of Transnet’s two pension funds, Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus’ parliamentary spokesperson on the economy says.

Adv. Alberts spoke as follow on the issue during his Member Statement in Parliament today:

“The ANC’s chairperson in Gauteng, Paul Mashatile, recently set the red lights flickering when he said that the ANC in Gauteng would at the party’s national general council meeting in October submit proposals that the party looks at ways to empower workers by directing where and how pension funds should be invested. According to Mashatile it is an attempt to transform South Africa’s economy.

It is unfortunately a fact that the ANC have in the past 21 years transformed South Africa to the brink of an economic abyss. Our economy is at present hovering on the brink of junk status and the trend of entropy one could have noticed for a while already.

What is happening now the FF Plus had predicted a while ago already: The ANC’s money is now finished and pension funds are now being targeted. Transnet pensioners are struggling precisely because somebody else had influence over their pensions as investment experts, i.e. Transnet.

It is becoming clearer that the ANC is nothing other than what a Marxist organisation that, through stealth legislation, is succeeding with that which Mugabe had done openly.

Little by little property rights are being destroyed and redistribution is taking place while government should actually be creating the environment for economic growth and development.

The FF Plus will strongly oppose any interference in South Africa’s pension funds and will even see to it that court action is taken, should it be required. We are saying to the ANC: leave our pensions funds alone!” Adv. Alberts says.

In sy antwoord op ʼn parlementêre vraag oor pensioene van adv. Anton Alberts, die VF Plus se parlementêre woordvoerder oor finansies, sê die minister van finansies, Nhlanhla Nene, onder meer hy ‘oorweeg geen planne wat aan private of openbare pensioenfondse sal voorskryf’ oor hoe om hul geld te belê nie.

Dit is in skerp teenstelling met die 

onlangse uitlatings van Paul Mashitile, ANC-voorsiter in Gauteng, dat die ANC met sy volgende algemene raadsvergadering in Oktober vanjaar na maniere sal kyk om werkers meer te ‘bemagtig’ deur aan te dui hoe en waar hul pensioengeld belê moet word. Volgens Mashatile is dit ʼn poging om Suid-Afrika se ekonomie te ‘transformeer’.

Nene sê egter in sy antwoord dat hy nie sulke planne oorweeg nie, en dat dit belangrik is om daarop te let dat dit die taak van ʼn pensioenfonds se trustees is om op ʼn beleggings-strategie te besluit in oorweging van alle faktore in die belang van langtermyn-groei.

Hy sê voorts al wat die regering doen, is om ʼn ‘breë raamwerk’ te verskaf om risiko’s vir die fondse te verminder en sodoende sy lede te beskerm.

Alberts sê Nene weerspreek homself deur te erken dat daar wel regulasies in plek is wat fondse ‘verplig’ om beleggings in ontwikkelingsprojekte rakende infrastruktuur te ‘oorweeg

Hy sê die ‘verpligting’ wat oënskynlik aan die fondse se ‘oorweging’ oorgelaat word, is eweneens verwarend en die vraag kan gevra word hoe openlik die minister se antwoord is, en in hoe ʼn mate dit die groei van die fondse demp.

“Hierdie verwarring, wat ʼn kenmerk van ANC-beleid veral oor die ekonomie geword het, is uiters skadelik, veral gesien teen die agtergrond van die verwoesting van Transnet se twee fondse.”

#ATTACK: Drunk police did not come back with back-up after 80 shots were fired at two men and their two colleagues

Allegedly drunk police did not come back with back-up

All hell broke loose near Princess Informal Settlement just past midnight this morning.

Two guards from Saraspace Security who where protecting a new overhauled substation alerted the owner of the company and a employee of Tshepisang Electric just past midnight that an illegal electricity connection was in progress. They rushed to the scene and the owner of Saraspace, Don van der Merwe, nearly lost control of his vehicle. Immediately the 15 plus black suspects opened fire on the two men and their two colleagues. A gun battle ensued in which Van der Merwe claims about 80 shots were exchanged. His bakkie was hit and the suspects fled. The security company, along with their dog Brutus, entered the camp but could not find the suspects.

Van der Merwe also claim that two police members, a male and female arrived on the scene while the shooting took place but the female officer was allegedly drunk. The SAPS members said they would return with back-up but by 4am they still did not.

#FarmMurder: Mike Danker found shot dead at his front door of his residence in Muldersdrift

Upon their arrival at the plot in Copperhouse Road on 12 September, police met up with the complainant who pointed out the body of a male who is believed to be between the ages of 65 and 70 years old.

The body was identified as well-known businessman Mike Danker, who is known within the catering industry.

It is believed that his body was discovered after a family member failed to get a hold of him on Saturday to notify him of the passing of his mother the previous night.

The victim had a gunshot wound in his upper body and was found lifeless in front of the open door of his residence.

“The Muldersdrift police are investigating a murder case until more information is available regarding the incident,” Muldersdrift police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya, said.

The parents of the missing Neline van Zyl have pleaded for the return of their daughter

Neline (13) went missing on Thursday 10 September. She was last seen by her brother Ruan when she left her school bags at his place of work. She was supposed to go and watch a cricket game with her friends but never showed.

At this stage it is unclear if she went out of free will or if she was abducted.

“This is not normal for our child. Something is terribly wrong and it does not make sense. If you can hear me Neline, please make contact with me. If the person that took Neline can hear me, please bring my daughter back.”

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of 45 year-old Roseline Bosman of Humansdorp.

Provincial police commission, Lieutenant General Celiwe Binta has commended Humansdorp detectives for the swift arrests, following the discovery of Bosman's body by her children in her home on Saturday morning. 

Warrant Officer Basil Seekoei says Humansdorp detectives followed up on information which led them to Hankey where a 26 year-old suspect was arrested and found in possession of personal belongings of the deceased.

After the first suspect was arrested and questioned, a second man aged 49 was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning - also in Hankey.

Seekoei says the motive for the murder is not yet known and that more arrests are imminent.

#Murder Update: 4th black killer arrested in connection with the murder of 78-year-old Denise Marlene Webber

Port Elizabeth police have arrested a 4th black suspect  in connection with the murder of 78-year-old Denise Marlene Webber of Kabega Park.

Captain Johann Rheeder says the 28 year-old black suspect handed himself over to Kabega Park police on Friday in the company of his lawyer.

Rheeder says the black man had failed to appear in court earlier in the week and smart detective work by captain Fanus du Bruin and his team from Kabega Park police station ensured that the word on the street - that he was a marked man - got back to the suspect.

All four black attackers wanted in connection with Webber's murder at her home on the 20th of August are now behind bars.

Rheeder says the black suspect number four arrested on Friday will appear in court at St Albans on Monday.

His three alleged accomplices will appear again on the 16th of September for a bail application and the State is prepared to oppose bail.

Rheeder said it had also emerged that black suspect number two, Mkhuseli Magura Mcqanda had now been linked to 5 house robbers in the Walmer area, as well as the brutal attack on an East London farmer in June, in which the farmer's hand was hacked off. http://m.algoafm.co.za/article.aspx?id=13760

Ses mans het Donderdag, 3 September, ’n jong man in sy huis in die Toitskraal area in ’n stoeigeveg, tydens ’n plaasaanval, geskiet.
Volgens me. Charmaine Clark (52), het sy om 01:13 wakker geword van ’n vreemde geluid.
Toe sy die deur van die slaapkamer oopmaak, was dit eggter weer doodstil. Na ’n ruk het sy weer die geluid gehoor, die alarm afgeskakel en deur die sitkamer geloer na die toegeboude stoep, waar sy ’n man met ’n donkerblou klapmus gevang het, waar hy ’n venster probeer oopforseer.
“Ek het dadelik begin skreeu vir my man, Chris (45), en seun Jethro Wakefield (32), dat daar ’n man besig is om by ons huis in te breek.
Die oomblik toe Chris my hoor skreeu, het hy ’n ander rower opgemerk, wat sy arm deur die veiligheidstralies gedruk het en ’n vuurwapen op hom gerig het. Die man het op Chris geskiet, hom gelukkig gemis, en die 9mm koeël het in die muur vasgeslaan,” sê me. Clark.
Beide mnr. Clark en Jethro, het na die toegeboude stope gehardloop waar die venster reeds deur die ander booswig oopgebreek is.
Vier ander mans het opgedaag met ’n groot boutsnyer, en begin om die diefwering oop te breek.
Mnr. Clark en Jethro het na die verdagtes geslaan, om te verhoed dat hulle die woning betree.
Mnr. Clark, het mnr. Lukas Terblanche en Marble Hall SOS gekontak, terwyl mnr. Wakefield hulp gevra het by mnr. Kobus Malan.
“Ek het die paniekknoppie gedruk, maar seker nie lank genoeg nie, ek was so bang,” sê me. Clark.
Daar was altesaam ses mans, een met ’n grys klapmus, vyf met donkerblou klapmusse en een sonder enige vermomming.
Die verdagtes het die veiligheidstralies na buite oopgebruig, maar mnr. Clark het dit gegryp en terug getrek.
“Drie van die mans het vuurwapens gehad, en vier skote is afgevuur. Nòg een het afgegaan en my seun in die bors getref. Die sewende skoot was weer mis. Die aanval was binne tien minute verby, maar dit was die ergste tien minute van ons lewe,” sê me. Clark.
Mnr. Terblanche en mnr. Malan, en twintig ander boere uit die omgewing het kort hierna by die plaas opgedaag. Die verdagtes het twee-twee in verskillende rigtings gevlug.
“Beide ons honde is vergiftig, Simba was reeds omtrent twee ure dood en die ander een, Scar, is na die veearts geneem vir behandeling,” sê me. Clark.
Mnr. Wakefield is per ambulans na Philladelphia Hopsitaal geneem, die koeël is wonderbaarlik regdeur, en het hy net steke ontvang. Hy het gewier om oornag in die hospitaal te bly.
“Die verskriklike ding is, hulle het nie net gekom om te steel nie, hulle het gekom om dood te maak. Hulle het met opset geskiet,” sê me. Clark.
Geen verdagtes is tot dusver in hegtenis geneem nie.
Me. Clark bedank graag vir mnr. Terblanche, mnr. Malan, Marble Hall SOS, en die ander boere wat bystand verleen het.
