The Upper Tongaat farmer, Simon Shepherd, who was brutally attacked by blacks in his home last month, has died on Tuesday in ICU at Alberlito Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal

Shepherd was beaten with a cane knife (similar to a machete) and suffered multiple injuries including five broken ribs, a gash to his head and deep cuts. The skin on one of his hands and arm was ripped off.

Sixteen years ago Carlo van Litsenborgh, 69, was sleeping next to his wife when two armed blacks attacked him at about 3am on Sunday.

The killers then turned on his wife, Peggy, 62, assaulted her and ordered her to show them where the couple kept their cash and firearms.

Van Litsenborgh, 69, died from a crushing blow to the skull. After hitting Mrs Van Litsenborgh the black killers tied her up in a cellar.

During the attack the couple's dogs fled from the house and raised alarm with one of the couple's daughters, Marcelle Lamprechts, who lives about 50m away in a cottage on the smallholding...

Now Sixteen years later the second assailant was arrested in Johannesburg...
