Woman proves she owns plot, claims Mashola threatens her
An aggrieved land owner has condemned councillor Sam Mashola for invading her property by turning it into a soccer field and then lying about her.
Mashola claimed the property was abandoned so he was turning it into a soccer field for the Sunset View community.
But Zelia Sonja Theron provided proof that she owned the property. Mashola had told residents Theron was not the owner.
The property was bought by Theron’s mother and bequeathed to her and her siblings when her mother died.
She said she had been trying to develop the property but had been put off by Mashola’s threats against her.
“We want the people living on the smallholding to vacate it so we can build on it but every time I try to do something, Mashola threatens me,” claimed Theron.
She said squatters on her property were operating a tavern which “does not sit well with me” because of the criminal element it attracted.
“Since 2010, I have have been trying to reclaim my property. He has allowed a ‘shebeen’ to operate illegally there and has also allowed people to squat on our property,” said Theron.
“When I gave the people notice to vacate the property in 2012, Mashola threatened me and abused me with foul language. Over these last few years, we as owners cannot improve our land. This is not acceptable.”
Theron said the property had belonged to her family since 1976 and Mashola knows this.
“I have kept detailed records of all our [him and I] meetings and encounters,” said Theron.
She said Tshwane metro should investigate Mashola’s conduct and that city trucks, scrappers and other resources were used to make the field.
She said she had contacted the metro but had not received any feedback.
Rekord, a week ago, reported that Mashola was accused of illegally occupying land that did not belong to him.
