A woman in Arboretum, KwaZulu-Natal, was attacked and robbed in her own home on Tuesda
The suspect, thought to be in his early 20s, allegedly appeared in her bedroom at 2.30pm and threatened the resident with kitchen scissors, demanding her laptop and cellphone, Zululand Observer reported.
When she tried to escape, he grabbed hold of the victim and attacked her.
“She sustained an open wound and bruises on both her arms,” said Richards Bay police spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira.
The suspect fled on foot with a laptop and two cellphones.
“We believe he gained entry by breaking a padlock to the house’s sliding door,” said Captain Ferreira.
A case of house robbery has been opened.
In a separate incident, a elderly woman reportedly escaped harm after she faked a heart attack during a house attack, causing the robbers to panic and flee the scene in Krugersdorp, on Gauteng’s West Rand.
The 74-year-old woman, Pat Watson, said the three unknown men broke into her flatlet and her daughter’s house Rantenbal on August 17.
“My daughter was at work already. And at around 9am two men stood at my door,” Watson added.
When Watson realised they were going to take everything valuable they could get their hands on, she decided she needed to get out of there. She asked the suspect who was guarding her to leave her on the pavement.
“I told him that I was having a heart attack and that he should let go otherwise he will be charged not only for theft but for murder as well,” she said.
Watson said she put on the hysterical act of her life, and the robber fled in a panic.
