Forensic Expert murdered in East Town
Sophiatown Police is investigating the murder of a man in the suburb of East Town.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn, a 66-year-old forensic expert was shot and killed in the cottage he was living in, behind a house on De Wet Street, on 5 June. According to WO De Bruyn, the owner of the property discovered the man dead on the bathroom floor, and called the police.
“The police received a complaint at 10.17pm. After responding to the scene, we found the body on the bathroom floor,” WO De Bruyn said. He could not confirm if anything had been stolen from the man, or how the suspects had entered or left the property.
“The man was shot at least once and we found two cartridges on the scene,” added WO De Bruyn.
WO De Bruyn said that a murder case was opened at the station but there was an unknown number of suspects. No arrests have been made yet.
