According to Netcare 911 media liaison, Chris Botha, who attended the scene, the 85-year-old woman lived on her own. “Her niece and nephew used to bring her food every day. When they had no response, they peered through the window and saw her lying on the floor,” said Chris.
The Community Crime Prevention Organisation was called to the scene. “The house appeared ransacked and stripped of copper pipes and the geyser,” said CCPO committee member, Paul O’Neil. “However, there was no forced entry to the house.”
It is suspected the resident could have surprised housebreakers, who panicked. The cause of death will be determined by a post mortem.
