Intruder dies after homeowner fought back with axe
Early on Tuesday 7 June, a home invasion victim in Pelzvale armed with an axe fought back against three intruders, seriously injuring two of them.
One of the injured intruders has subsequently died in hospital. The third intruder ran away.
According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, three unknown suspects ordered a security guard to open the gate to the premises while pointing a firearm at him, at about 1am this morning.
They forced him into the house he was guarding by firing a shot. No one was hit, but they gained access to the house.
“When they entered the house, the intruders fired another shot, again not hitting anything.
The owner, who had been alerted to the situation by the shots, countered the attack, armed with an axe.
“One of the suspects ran away, while the other two were seriously injured by the homeowner.”
Ernst added that the Randfontein Police found the two badly injured suspects and one firearm on the scene. The suspects were arrested and then transported under guard to a hospital for treatment.
“One of the injured suspects subsequently passed away in the hospital,” Ernst said.
