Metrorail in the Western Cape says commuters can expect further train delays over the coming weeks due to the recent arson and vandalism attacks. Spokesperson, Riana Scott, says there have been 478 train cancellations this week alone. Scott says trains have to be operated manually due to damage of signal systems, which is a slower but safer option. Thirty-two carriages have been reported to be destroyed in seperate incidents over the last seven months. Scott says the scheduled delays are likely to cause overcrowding.
