Kyle Cowan, journalist at the Zululand Observer, writes:
19 January 2016 - The victims of a gruesome double murder in KwaMbonambi on Monday have been identified. David (76) and Anne (73) Strauss were attacked in their home by at least three men, who tied them up, ransacked the house and stabbed them to death before fleeing.Police were led to the scene by a suspect they had arrested on an unrelated matter. However -- after searching him and finding a wallet and ID documents belonging to David in his possession, investigators grew suspicious and questioned him.
The suspects had taken a number of items from the home, including David’s firearm, and fled in their car, a blue Nissan Almera. Major Bonginkosi Gumede, KwaMbonambi SAPS station commander, confirmed that another two suspects had fled from the vehicle when approached by police.‘But we will get them, I have no doubt,’ he said on Monday.
