House burns down in Centurion
The house in Furry Street in Pierre van Ryneveld caught fire just after 18:00, said Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Johan Pieterse.
It began when cars parked under the carport of the house caught alight.
“We are not sure why the vehicles started burning and the owner does not know too. The fire spread to the double-story house,” Pieterse said.
The entire house burned down and nothing could be saved.
Braam Kruger, spokesperson of Emer-G-Med, said no injuries were reported.
“When we got to the scene, everyone was out of the house.”
Kruger said the cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
“We commend the Tshwane fire services for their good work.”
Concerned Citizens spokesperson Hannes Du Buisson said the fire at the house was under control and efforts to put out the last flames were continuing.
A lack of water pressure was making this difficult.
Pieterse said: “We have called in tankers to help with the water supply. Our team will still be on the scene for another hour or so for the dumping down of the house.” http://rekordcenturion.co.za/58517/house-burns-down-in-centurion/

● 18 buses belonging to the Tshwane Bus Service have been stoned throughout the week, the city says.
Almost 18 buses belonging to the Tshwane Bus Service have been stoned throughout the week, the city said on Thursday.
“The City of Tshwane buses have, since Monday, been subjected to random acts of stoning that injured drivers and passengers,” spokesman Blessing Manale said in a statement.
Manale said empty buses and fully-loaded ones were randomly targeted by stone-throwing mobs at various places and times.
Other bus operators, including Putco, Starline and Gautrain, were not being targeted, Manale said.
“Some of the drivers and passengers were badly injured and had to be rushed to hospital,” he said.
The motive for the stoning was not known. The perpetrators had also not been identified.
A case of malicious damage to property had been opened with the police.

● Police fire rubber bullets to disperse looters near Rustenburg
Rustenburg - Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse a crowd of teenagers who were looting foreign-owned shops in Lethabong near Rustenburg on Tuesday night.
A gang of about 50 teenagers moved from one section of the township to another, looting shops before running away when a police Nyala roared onto the scene.
“Come on, the corner shop,” the group shouted, attacking a foreign shop in the Slovo section.
The looters fled empty-handed when police moved in. At least three shops were looted.
“We want money,” one youth told the African News Agency.
“These shops are expensive and they do not give us credit, that is why we loot them,” he said.
The group started blocking roads in the township with rocks and other objects following a meeting in which a resolution was apparently taken to block all entrances on Wednesday morning to prevent people from going to work or school.
Residents were demanding that the Rustenburg municipality speed up the allocation of residential sites and attend to a sewerage spill in Chesampa which had been running for over six months.
On Monday afternoon the group had blocked roads with burning tyres and rocks but the police managed to stop the planned protest.

● EFF threatens to shutdown Aquarius Platinum Mine in Rustenburg
Rustenburg – The Economic Freedom Fighters on Friday threatened to disrupt operations at Aquarius Platinum Mine in Kroondal, near Rustenburg in North West, until mine management heeds the community’s demands.
“We are going to march every week until you listen, or face total shutdown,” EFF Bojanala region chairman Thulani Makhanye said.
About 200 EFF members at Ikemeleng in Kroondal marched on Friday to hand over a memorandum demanding jobs at the mine.
Dressed in EFF red T-shirts and berets, they chanted as they snaked through the streets leading to the mine about 3km away.
They waved posters and a giant banner, proclaiming: “Aquarius here you behave or else fokof.”
Another poster read: “Aquarius have white tendency of undermining blacks”.
“This mine does not hire people from our community, but people from Tlhabane [about 17km from Kroondal] are working here. Our people who are 3km from the mine remain unemployed,” Makhanye said.
The EFF demanded that the mine develop the area and help in skilling locals as part of its labour social plan.
“Today [Friday] we brought only [EFF] members from ward 35 [of the Rustenburg municipality]. We are going to mobilise communities so that if you do not concede to our demands there will be a shutdown at this mine; workers will join the march,” Makhanye said.
Aquarius started mining in the area in 1997, but there had been no socio-economic empowerment.
The EFF also demanded that workers fired in 2009 after going on an unprotected strike be reinstated or paid money.
Apparently the former workers live a tough life in a hostel near Ikemeleng, surviving by eating cats and rats.
Aquarius has said these workers were not employed by the mine, but by Murray and Roberts Cementation. Both Aquarius and Murray and Roberts Cementation have said the workers’ case was finalised at the Labour Court in Johannesburg.
Makhanye said another march would be held next Friday, to Aquarius’s Kwezi mine near Sondela informal settlement, where nine workers were shot dead, allegedly by security guards, in 2012.
“There is no case opened up to today. We are taking the matter up and have opened a case against the security company,” he said. http://www.ofm.co.za/article/National/170954/EFF-threatens-to-shutdown-Aquarius-Platinum-Mine-in-Rustenburg

●No arrests yet following looting in Lethabong in North West
Rustenburg - No arrests had yet been made following looting of foreign-owned shops in Lethabong near Rustenburg, North West police said on Wednesday.
“The police have interviewed shop owners. They are following leads and arrests are imminent,” said police spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko.
On Tuesday night a group of teenagers looted shops owned by foreign nationals. This followed a meeting at which it was alleged a resolution was taken to shut down the township on Wednesday, in a bid to force the Rustenburg local municipality to speed up the process of allocating residential sites in Lethabong. They also wanted the municipality to attend to a sewerage spill they alleged had been leaking for over six months in Chesampama.
Ramaloko said at least four shops had been looted.
The police had managed to restore order and no incidents were reported on Wednesday.
Although the situation was calm on Wednesday night, rocks were still blocking the road preventing buses from getting into Chesampama and Soviet 1 areas. http://www.ofm.co.za/article/Local-News/170826/No-arrests-yet-following-looting-in-Lethabong-in-North-West
