Dangerous trial-awaiting prisoners who had escaped from police custody in Brits in February, have again escaped after being re-arrested

They are linked to cases of murder, robbery, rape, house robbery, attempted murder, burglary as well as illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in  Brits,  Mooinooi, Hartbeesfontein, Rustenburg and Zeerust

Dangerous criminals escape again
Chris Sithole (24) and Alfonso Alfred Mpofu (25) escaped on 17 June with six other dangerous prisoners from the Mogwase prison. Sithole and Mpofu escaped with two other prisoners from a police vehicle in Brits in February. The prisoners were on their way to the Brits Magistrate’s Court.

Sithole and Mpofu are on trial for four counts of rape, murder and robbery. After their escape in Brits, they were transferred to the Mogwase prison.

The men who escaped on Friday are Oscar Sibiya, Luckymore Mutasa, Mandla Mokoena, Emmanuel Banda Hobe, Chris Sithole, Knowledge Benny Machesa, Alfonso Alfred Mpofu and Cleophus Tapiwa. They are linked to cases of murder, robbery, rape, house robbery, attempted murder, burglary as well as illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in  Brits,  Mooinooi, Hartbeesfontein, Rustenburg and Zeerust.

Initially ten prisoners escaped, but the police managed to re-arrest two, Lloyd Munungu and Joseph Mlambo.

They appeared in the Mogwase Magistrate’s Court on a charge of escape from lawful custody. They will appear in court again on Tuesday, 19 July.
