More ethnic cleansing of white and coloured pensioners - no alternative housing offered by "Helderberg Society for the Aged"- Libertas, Somerset West - No alternative housing offered for these lonely pensioners. They face homelessness. Many have no families.

Cape Argus June 8 2016 - Under South African law, people must be offered suitable alternative housing by the organisation which evicts them from their homes - whether they are shacks, flats or old-age housing.
"Nowhere to go for elderly facing eviction"
"A group of pensioners living at the Libertas home in Somerset West are concerned they may be “put on the streets” after being served termination of lease notices by the Helderberg Society for the Aged (HSFA).
"At least 12 of the Libertas block of flats’ 22 residents, speaking to the Cape Argus on condition of anonymity, claimed they received letters last Friday informing them they would have to be out by the end of next month.
"They are worried that they have nowhere to go, because they could not afford the rental at any of the neighbouring retirement villages.
"An 89-year-old woman, who had been living in the flats for moreo than two decades, said she could not afford to move out. She lives in a one-bedroom flat which has a small kitchen and bathroom. “When my husband died we were both living here. I am solely dependent on my grant money and cannot afford to move. ”
"From the pension money she receives, she pays about R750 for rent, R150 for electricity, R100 for the telephone and she spends the rest of the money on groceries.
"Her children, two of whom live outside Cape Town and another who lives in Cape Town with his in-laws, are unable to care for her.
“I don’t even have medical aid,” she said.
(*This is the spin - but it is legal?) Mrs Barbara Segella, spokeswoman for HSFA, which non-profit group 'owns' and operates many retirement homes in Somerset West, said the block was "being closed down because “the building was fast becoming unhygienic and not fit for habitation”.
Segalla said the residents 'knew about the possible closure two years ago: the Society has spent R1, 470,000 on the upkeep and refurbishment of the building but, because of the age, this has not been sufficient to keep the premises habitable and risk-free.”

(following is the spin by the non-profit group which runs many retirement homes in Somerset West. However is this forced removal of frail old-age white and coloured pensioners even legal?)
