WATCH: What happens when you’re asleep

CCTV footage shows a gang of intruders on the prowl.

Six unknown men, suspected to be a gang operating in the area, attempt to gain entry into a Bazley property.

ESCALATING crime in the Ifafa and Bazley area has the SAPS hard at work trying to capture a gang which is operating in the area.

Between the afternoon of June 20 and the following morning, two houses in Bazley were targeted by burglars.

Residents at a property in Bushbuck Way, Bazley, noticed an unknown man reaching in through a window which had been forced open. The man attempted to disconnect the security system.

“The CCTV camera cables outside of the house had already been damaged by the suspects,” said police spokesman,  Captain Vincent Pandarum.

The wife alerted her husband, who fired a warning shot in order to scare the intruders off.

Six men gained entry to our property through my neighbour’s property by jumping over the fence. One was holding something that looked like a crowbar. They persisted in pushing and banging on the door.

As they had been undeterred by the first shot, her husband fired a second warning shot, which scared the intruders off.

“It is believed that at least six criminals were involved and detectives are investigating the possibility that they may also be responsible for the recent burglaries at Club Marina in Ifafa,” said Captain Pandarum.

Entry into a house in Lagoon Drive, Bazley had apparently been gained through a sliding door which had been forced open. Fortunately, the owners of the property were not at home.

A variety of bottles of liquor were stolen. The owners of the property only discovered the burglary when they returned the following morning.

Both cases are being investigated by Detective Constable Weidon Govender of the Scottburgh Cluster Detective Task Team.

On June 12 and 13, three incidents were reported to the Hibberdene SAPS.

On the evening of June 12, a Club Marina property was broken into. A flat screen television had been stolen. Shortly afterwards, a second property had almost been burgled.

The wife had alerted her husband, saying that she had heard a noise.

The husband spotted men, who were armed with bush knives, attempting to gain entry into their property. He managed to scare off the criminals.

On June 13, a woman was held up on her property by men armed with bush knives.  The robbers fled with cellphones, wallets, clothing and other items.
