14 Jun 2016: Welkom - The body of a hairdresser from Riebeeckstad in Welkom was discovered this morning inside his home from where he also manages his own hairdressing salon.
Police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says the 53-year-old deceased’s father discovered his body at around 07:30 after he could not reach his son via cell phone.
Thakeng says the concerned father went to his son’s house and borrowed a step ladder from a neighbour to climb over the locked entrance gate to his property. According to Thakeng, the front door and security gate were open.
The father found his son’s body on the floor. There was a rope, used to tie back curtains, around the deceased’s neck. Police suspect he was strangled. The house was ransacked.
Thakeng says the safe was broken into and an undisclosed amount of money and the deceased’s cell phone are missing.
Thakeng says the deceased’s hands were tied up with shoelaces. His name is withheld because his extended family needs to be notified. Police are investigating a murder case.
