Kemptonpark: report by Tumelo Mthethwa, Caxton Journalist
24 May 2016 - Two months ago she became a victim of a hijacking in front of her Van Riebeeck Park home.
This time, Vanessa Chiappero-Green (31) found herself witnessing a hijacking right across from her home.
According to Chiappero-Green, the incident took place just after 8pm on Friday night, on the corner of de Villiers Street and Rustig Avenue, in Van Riebeeck Park.
“My husband, Wynand, and I were sitting outside having a smoke when we heard a commotion in the street; we ran upstairs to the balcony to see what was going on,” explained Chiappero-Green.
A father and daughter, their neighbours, had just arrived home and were being hijacked.“They were driving a Hyundai, and a white BMW followed them and parked behind them.
Three armed black men got out of the car. I don’t know what happened, but the father reversed into the BMW,” she added.
Her husband added that the bumper and tail lights of the BMW were damaged.
By this time he had already pressed the panic button. “It all happened so fast,” he pointed out.
The three suspects held the father at gunpoint as they stripped him of his valuables, including his wallet, phone and watch, before slowly driving off in the Hyundai.
“It was so weird, they didn’t speed off like they did when they hijacked me, they slowly drove off,” said Chiappero-Green.
“Van Riebeeck is becoming a crime spot.” The robbers left the damaged white BMW at the scene.
Norkem Park SAPS spokesman Capt Lesibana Molokomme said no arrests were made, and the stolen vehicle was not recovered.
“The BMW was taken to the SAPS pounding unit for further investigation. It was reported stolen at the Sandringham SAPS this month,” Molokomme added.
