AN Umbilo man is recovering at home after he was hijacked and stabbed in the early hours of this morning. The incident occurred outside a flat in Regina Avenue, Umbilo.
A community member noticed the incident and through the use of the KZN Community Assist and Disaster Management Whatsapp group was able to round up police and emergency services too assist the man.
In an exclusive telephonic interview with Berea Mail, the recovering victim, known as Clement, said he was leaving for work in the morning when two men suddenly appeared and approached him. “They had a knife and screwdriver and stabbed me while I tried to fight them off. I lost a lot of blood and lost consciousness so don’t know what happened after,” he said.
Garrith Jamieson, operations director for Rescue Care, said paramedics were called to the scene at around 5am. “The man was allegedly hijacked and stabbed. We stabilised him and transported him to hospital,” he explained.
