Family in dire straits
IN DIFFICULT TIMES: The Afrikaner Boshoff family are in need of help. They are (seated) Tertia and Jimmy, (standing) Jason and Tanya.
THE Boshoff family is trying to make ends meet but they are in a difficult space and are hoping for any miracle at this point.
Jimmy (59), the head of the family of four, was retrenched about 18 months ago and as a result the family has lost almost everything even their house. He used to work in Alrode and the family lived in Alberton North.
“We’ve literally lost everything, I slept in the street with my family. I don’t expect handouts from people however we need help. When I look for a job, I’m told I’m too old and I cannot get pension yet because I don’t qualify. We are willing to work in order to get shelter over our heads and of course to feed ourselves,” he explained. Jimmy’s daughter, Tanya (26), works at an internet café and earns R30 a day, her mother, Tertia (50), had a back operation and cannot work. Due to the living circumstances his son, Jason (19), did not complete his matric and is struggling to find a job.
On Friday, September 11, they were taken in by the Fortoen family in Rewlatch, however, they cannot stay there long as the Fortoen’s are in the process of selling their house. Vicky Fortoen said they took the Boshoff family in because they could no longer see them suffer.
“My daughter, Clare, attended Diversity High School with Tanya and they are friends. They desperately need a place to stay. I know that the COURIER can be their voice and I know someone out there will find it in their heart to assist us by helping them.
