18 July 2016 — Transvaal Agricultural Union member, Clocolan farmer Carl du Randt, wife Lydia and 8-year-old son survived a farm attack on Sunday-evening 6h30pm by six black gunmen.
The family was ambushed at their homestead after they had returned from dropping their older sons in Bloemfontein.
Carl and Lydia was tied up while little Carl, 8 years old, was forced at gunpoint to unlock the safe.
The six-member gang disappeared with a hunting rifle, household goods and fled in Mr Du Randt’s bakkie. Little Carl got onto the Farm Watch radio asking people to help find their bakkie at Blydskap. The immediate reaction to young Carl’s emergency call by two neighboring farmers, also TAU members, helped to recover the bakkie but the six gunmen fled.
Shots reportedly were fired. The gang fled in the direction of the Lesotho border. Nobody was arrested and the hunting rifle and farm-bakkie were recovered, reports TAU-SA.
