-- Police in Bloemfontein are currently at a house in Pellissier after the body of a 73-year-old man was found in his house this morning. According to information a neighbor found the body in a sitting position against a fridge in his kitchen. The elderly man was tied up. It is alleged that he was beaten to death. According to a source his neighbors became suspicious after they saw no activity at his house the past three days. A neighbor went to investigate at about 08:00 and found the elderly man’s kitchen door of his house in Martatjie Street was open. At this stage there were no signs of forcible entry to the house.
According to a source the deceased stayed alone.
Knoetze, a former train driver, was tied up and showed visible head wounds -- allegedly beaten to death.
Cousin Glanville Oliver said that initially the family thought that Knoetze had died of natural causes.
"When we arrived at home we saw that he was indeed murdered. I mean he was only a pensioner. Everybody that has phoned so far to find out if he was murdered asked me: 'why him?' He was a good person, would not even hurt a fly,' said Oliver
