Musician and entertainer Nataniel this weekend suffered damages of over R100 000, when a group of thieves robbed him while he was sick in bed.
Nataniel took to Facebook on Sunday, to explain to fans why a show scheduled for Saturday didn’t take place, something which he wrote is a first for him in 29 years.
He, in the post, explains that his stint of bad luck started when he returned from France with a sinus infection some three weeks ago, eventually developing bronchitis and middle ear infection that kept him in bed for two weeks.
After finally shaking the illness, he managed four successful shows last week, but these had taken a toll on his voice and his general well-being.
“My throat was sore and by Saturday morning I could hardly speak. In an effort to straighten myself out for the evening’s show, I got some medication and was advised to sleep for the rest of the day,” he wrote.
And it was while he was sleeping that the robbers ransacked the place.
“I fell asleep and woke up almost immediately, from voices somewhere in the place where I was staying,” he explain further.
“First I thought it was the cleaners bringing new towels, but there were more voices. I realised something was wrong and wanted to get up when someone yanked open the bedroom door and saw me. I pretended that I was sleeping, I was afraid that they had guns. The door was immediately closed and the intruders started yelling at each other that they should leave. Someone yanked the door open again, and grabbed my bag and cellphone.
“They ran outside and I jumped up, when I got outside they were all already on a white bakkie that had sped away.
“Back inside I realised that they also stole more than R40 000 in cash, my ID, passport, wallets, drivers license, two leather bags, four designers jackets and my theatre bag with my microphone, shoes, make-up, etcetera, quite a lot more than R100 000 worth of damages.”
Two hours before his performance on Saturday, Nataniel started feeling very ill, so much so that he couldn’t stand up straight.
“I was taken to hospital where they did tests and decided that it was a combination of sleep deprivation, exhaustion and shock. I was given everything I needed in vitro, and by the time I was discharged, the time of the show had long since passed,” he continued.
“I hear that the audience was understanding when they were informed, some socialised for a long time! I thank everyone and we will make a plan to determine a new date. Nothing on earth will stand in the way of a show!
“I am now back in Pretoria and absolutely fine. And that’s my story.”
