After approximately fifty years of burning down schools in SA, is safe to suggest that this behaviour can now be understood to be a cultural activity?

Vuwani: Tsonga leaders concerned over Venda king’s comments

JOHANNESBURG – Tsonga royal leaders say they are shocked by statements made by the Venda king that he fully supports the opposition to joining a new municipality based in Malamulele.

They say this view has the potential of fuelling ongoing protests in Vuwani, in which at least 24 schools have been destroyed.

Twenty-three people are expected to appear in court tomorrow in connection with the violence.

The Venda king on Friday said the demands being made by the residents to remain in the Makhado Municipality, were legitimate.

Chairperson of the Vatsonga-Machangani royal leaders Hosi Nwamitwa says they urgently need to meet with the Venda king to stop a possible tribal war.

“An ordinary man in the street will not differentiate supporting and encouraging them to go on with what they’re doing. It was an unfortunate statement. We’re still waiting for his response. We want to tell him, he is the one who must say this thing must stop.”
