According to the SABC, a radio News senior investigative journalist, Jacques Steenkamp, has been held hostage in Krugersdorp last night.
Steenkamp said he was working undercover, investigating claims of prostitution and child trafficking.
The SABC reported that he was held hostage for two hours and money was withdrawn from his account before he was eventually released.
Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, said a case of robbery has been opened and “is being investigated by local police.”
The report added that SABC spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago said the corporation is very concerned about the news that one of their own journalists were “kidnapped while trying to do his job.”
“For us the safety of our employees is very important and we want to make sure that we get to the bottom of this story, and make [sure]
that the people who did this are then taken to task for what they have done.”
After a similar incident, the News previously reported that a woman was forced into the car of three alleged kidnappers on 23 March.
Denise Reed (55) was held at gunpoint,pepper sprayed, dragged 400 metres on tar road, dangling from a vehicle, and nearly kidnapped by three men.
