HAZYVIEW – A prominent businessman, Mr Willem Fick (64) was attacked at his home in Vakansiedorp just outside town on Tuesday.
Provincial police spokesman Brig Selvy Mohlala confirmed that the incident occurred at around 19:00 when five armed men allegedly overpowered Fick as he arrived home. “As he parked his vehicle, the men armed with handguns and a knife forced him into his home, demanding cash and firearms,” said Mohlala.
Fick was forced to the floor and assaulted. “One of the attackers pistol-whipped Fick in the back of his head,” said Mohlala. They then took him to his room where he was tied up and continued to ransack the house.
They got hold of the safe keys where an undisclosed amount of cash was taken. The suspects also took his business keys, laptop, jewellery and other valuable items. The gunmen fled with his Land Rover and are still at large. Mohlala urges anyone with information to phone the Hazyview Police Station on 013-737-8284.
