Shot New Areas hijack victim dies four days later
Pieter Strauss (29), who was shot during a hijacking in New State Areas on Saturday, died in a local hospital on Wednesday
Strauss was shot in the stomach by an armed robber in a park on the corner of Grant and Beverley streets.
Springs police spokesman, Capt Johannes Ramphora, says the case of attempted murder has now been changed to murder.
Strauss was rushed to hospital after EMPD officers at the scene called for an ambulance.
He died of his injuries on Wednesday evening.
Ramphora says the deceased was enjoying an afternoon in the park with three of his friends where their VW Polo and Toyota Camry were parked, when two armed men approached them.
When the suspects ordered the victims to lie down, Strauss refused and was shot in the stomach.
One of the suspects jumped into the Polo and drove off and the vehicle was later found abandoned in Grant Street.
