A heroic father was shot dead at a family gathering on Friday night in Amanzimtoti in KwaZulu-Natal.
Raymond Collyer, a 43-year-old former policeman and security company director, was killed when a gang of robbers attacked a family braai at his home, said News24.
The robbers were heavily armed when they stormed the property through the kitchen, blocking the only exit. They then beagn shooting at random.
Collyer tried to take down one of the gunmen, but the robbers, armed with guns and knives, attacked the former cop and his brother Grant.
Collyer was shot in the chest.
The men made off with jewelry and cellphones. The borther, Wayne, spoke to East Coast Radio. He said his brother died saving their family, he added their biggest fear was that the men would “rape the women and children”.
A case of murder is being investigated, but no arrested have been made yet. The attack is one of many violent attacks in Amanzimtoti in recent weeks.
