☆ 2 Peter 3: 14–18: CONTINUING CONSECRATION Christians should diligently seek peace and live spotless and blameless lives. God’s longsuffering causes Him to postpone judgement in order to extend the day of grace during which sinners may repent and turn to Him. He is giving them more time to see their lostness and come to Him. Our confidence must be in all the Scriptures, including those ‘hard to understand’! Growing in grace and in the knowledge of Christ will stop us from falling into wickedness. Our desire should be to see our Lord and Saviour glorified, ‘both now and for ever’.

V 1–9: CHRIST’S COMING Peter assures his readers that Christ is coming. The mocking taunts, that everything continues as it did before, is similar to what happened before when God judged the earth by a flood in the days of Noah. He will judge the earth by fire, but according to His timetable. Meanwhile, time is available for those, who will do so, to repent. V 10–13: COMFORTING CHALLENGE The coming of Christ will come as unexpectedly for the unprepared as a thief comes to a house in the night. When He comes, He will judge the world and burn it up. Christians should be holy and godly, looking for that coming day. That is the challenge. The comfort is that God will replace the burnt up heavens and earth with ‘new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells’.

14 Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. 15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Why Did Peter Start to Sink? He took his eyes of JESUS...  (fear... hate are causing Christian to lose sight... JESUS command us to love... We cannot love if fear and hate influence your sight) Matthew 14
