Shots fired at Freedom Front+ political candidate during attack by four black gunmen in Potgietersrus: son, 16, fought for mom's life.

Report: KC Byliefeldt, the 16-yo son of Freedom Front municipal candidate Valerie Byliefeldt, fights for mom's life against four black attackers in Potgietersrus. "My mom's safety was my top priority,' said the youth after their ordeal. The mother and son were attacked in the family car in front of their home in Bezuidenhout Street on Saturday 9 July 2016 by four black gunmen. Valerie was enroute to pay wages for the staff at 11h00am when she saw the black gunmen in her rear-view mirror of her car. Her son was with her. Bosveld Review writes that she was still shouting for KC when one of the suspects grabbed her car-key while KC stormed in and bashed the attacker with his fists. KC said the attacker staggered backwards and theng rabbed his pistol, shooting at them. "The first shots were fired before I could even blink my eyes,' said KC. Valerie said she begged the gunmen to just take the money but save their lives. The thugs grabbed the R24,650 cash she had with her to pay the wages and left. However KC wasn't giving up that easily: he chased the suspects who ran down the street and got into a car four houses down from theirs. Valerie meanwhile contacted the private security firm Special Operation Solutions (SOS) and within minutes reaction-officer Willie Harmse was at the scene with the police. KC said at that stage he believed that the thugs had just fired off some blanks and that his mom's security was his main priority. 'I was shocked when the police showed the spent cartridges left behind at the scene.'The mother and son believe that God's hand was clearly visible and they appreciate each other even more after their ordeal. Valerie: 'I am proud of my courageous son who remained calm and was thinking on his feet. The fighting of 'crime' in Potgietersrus is one of our most cardinal priorities.'The Byliefeldt family praised Mrs Marcelle Maritz, the chief organiser of the FreedomFront+ party in Limpopo, for her support, and the SOS reaction officers and the police for their
excellent responses. Meanwhile the police spokesman sergeant Irene Masingi responded with the usual mantra: 'no suspects were arrested and the investigation continues'.
