The arrested suspects, aged between 22 and 30 years, will appear in the Kokstad Magistrate’s Court later today, 12 May 2016 for possession of stolen property.
Police were patrolling the area last night to curb livestock theft when they received a tipoff. The suspects, were driving the stolen goats on foot from Eastern Cape to the Umzimkhulu area.
“The members intensify their patrols and they spotted two suspects at Swartberg area with eleven goats. When the suspects were apprehended, they could not give satisfactory explanation about these goats. They were both arrested and charged with possession of stolen property,” Major Shooz Magudulela said.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members for curbing down stock theft cases in the province. “Stock Theft members will intensify their strategies in making sure that those who are involved in stealing livestock are brought to book,” Lieutenant General Ngobeni said. “I also thank community members who alerted the members about these suspects who were allegedly stealing goats and their information was valuable to us. Community members must continue supporting us in the fight against stock theft crimes,’ she said
