THREE vehicles stolen during a business robbery at Erasmus farm in Glen Marais were among six hijacked vehicles recovered by the metro police within five hours on Monday.

Lt Col Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesman, said the robbery took place at 11am. The robbers got away with a large amount of cash and also forcibly took three vehicles, a silver Toyota LDV, a white Toyota LDV and a white Toyota Prado.

All three vehicles were found abandoned at the corner of Pretoria Road and the R23 fifteen minutes later. Two were found with keys still dangling from the ignition. The Toyota Prado, with its keys missing, was found in the nearby bushy area, Kgasago said.

The three other vehicles recovered the same day were all hijacked, two in Norkem Park and one in Birchleigh North. Their recovery was a joint effort between the metro police, police, Bidvest and Tracker SA.

Kgasago said a red Jeep SUV was hijacked in the early hours of Monday in Norkem Park. The perpetrators, using the hijacked Jeep, then hijacked a gold Toyota Fortuner. The Jeep was abandoned at Emfuhlweni Section in Tembisa opposite Masiqhakaze Secondary School, where it was recovered at 7am.

At 7.10am the hardworking officers recovered the gold Toyota Fortuner at Ethafeni Section opposite the clinic. While standing off at the recovered car, the officers received yet another report of a hijacked Mercedes Benz from Frikkie Street in Birchleigh North at 8am.

The Mercedes Benz was tracked down to Caprivi Tavern in Rabie Ridge where it was recovered at 8.30am.

All six vehicles, recovered intact, were taken to the SAPS Van Ryn Pound in Benoni for safe-keeping.

Also on Monday around 3pm, the metro police’s equestrian unit recovered a seventh hijacked car, a navy-blue BMW X5, hijacked in Midrand. The BMW was found abandoned in the basement parking lot at Kempton Place on Pretoria Road.
