Upon their arrival at the scene, police officers forced their way into the Mons Road, Delville, home and found the body of the man.
He had an open wound to his chest.
“The post mortem will tell us his exact cause of death,” said WO André de Jager, spokesman for the Germiston SAPS.
“We are investigating a case of murder, as well as a case of housebreaking.”
It appears that some items were taken from the house, but this will be confirmed by family members.
Police are not yet sure of the man’s exact time of death, as they received the call on Thursday and he hadn’t been seen for two days prior to that.
The suspect is unknown and no arrests have been made so far.

De Jager told the GCN that the Germiston SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit is embarking on a project to create a database of all elderly residents in the Delville area.
“We want to establish where all the elderly residents live and go and visit them at their homes in order to educate them regarding safety,” de Jager said.
“We also plan to set up a Domestic Workers Forum along the same lines, to educate domestic workers in our policing area about safety.
Elderly residents of Delville are urged to contact either Const Queen Sibeko or de Jager on 082 457 0636, in order for the police to set up a time to visit them.
