A South African warship came under fire two weeks ago - shot at by one of its own

" Friendly fire in PE" ...WTH????
The SA Navy confirmed that the strike craft SAS Isaac Dyobha accidentally discharged one of its guns and hit the SAS Drakensberg with a practice round, damaging its port-side deck, while both ships were berthed in Port Elizabeth harbour...

OOPS: The port deck on the SAS Drakensberg was damaged after the ship was fired on from a nearby berth :
I live in a wonderful world short-changed by ANC skin-based policies of AA BEE BBBEE AA PP quotas & representivity ....
#BringBackTheWhitePeople: 96 percent of all the so-named 'White" South Africans are barred from the job-market in South Africa under the ANC's more than 115 anti-white racelaws. Afrikaner children, children, pensioners and adults suffer from this deliberate policy of barring their wage-earners from jobs, and many of these families hide themselves away in tiny squatter camps in South Africa. They have no right to work, no rights to earning an income and no rights to get food-aid from charities: we are in desperate need of donations for food, vegetables, clothing, baby clothes, medicine, blankets and tents. The ANC government does not help: in fact the ANC-regime has also made laws which prohibit private and public charities and donor-charities from helping whites If they do, the ANC will cancel their non-profit registration with the government. More than 15-million black poor people get help from the government and from private charities in South Africa. But only very few charities dare to donate to help these Afrikaner squatters because of their fear of this law. Foreign charities and private donors are free to chose where they can send their money and their aid in South Africa This is a very desperate situation please help. We need assistance

The SA Navy confirmed that the strike craft SAS Isaac Dyobha accidentally discharged one of its guns and hit the SAS Drakensberg with a practice round, damaging its port-side deck, while both ships were berthed in Port Elizabeth harbour.

The incident occurred during the Armed Forces Day military exhibition in Port Elizabeth, which was attended by 25000 people.

"The details ... are currently under investigation," SA Navy spokesman Zamo Sithole said.

Sources confirmed that:

The strike craft accidentally fired while trying to clear a blockage in the gun; The round struck the SAS Drakensberg, causing a dent in deck 1.

Naval protocol lays down that guns should be cleared at sea.

When The Times visited Simon's Town naval Base on Thursday there was no sign of the damage as the Drakensberg was berthed with her port against the quay.

Sources said similar incidents occurred worldwide frequently.

Other accidents involving South African vessels include:

A frigate dropped a 4.5-inch round on a Simon's Town school playground [it did not explode];Twenty years ago a strike craft fired a 76mm round through a building at Salisbury Island, Durban; andSix years ago, a frigate fired a 35mm round through its own aft section in Simon's Town.

Defence analyst Helmoed Heitman said the latest incident was not an indictment of the navy, which he claimed was doing well despite budgetary constraints.

"Overall we are probably the best [navy] south of the Sahara. It's a horribly tight situation. They don't have money for refits or spares."
