The woman, believed to be in her 50s, has not yet been identified.

It was discovered floating close to the lake’s shore on Sunday night, January 24. The body bears no visible wounds while it is also still unclear as to how long it had been in the water and how it ended up in the lake.

According to Boksburg SAPS’ spokesperson Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese, preliminary findings for cause of death indicates drowning, but detectives continue to investigate.

“Results from the autopsy are not available yet, but there were no signs of foul play,” said Ngobese.

“All we have is a female victim that is presumed drowned at the lake,” said Ngobese.

Police are now seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the body. She is described as a white woman, her age estimated to be between 50 and 60 and has a tattoo of leaves on her right shoulder.

Anyone with information that may help the police to identify the body and solve the case is asked to phone the investigating officer Det W/O Rudi Venter on 011 841 6870/074 886 9754.

* This is not the first time a body has been found in the lake.

The body of Mzimasi Mkwantsa was discovered floating in the water of the lake on the morning of December 11, 2012.

A newborn baby boy’s body, his age believed to be two or three weeks, was recently found floating in the Boksburg Lake, near the Boksburg Library.

A foetus was also found in the lake in 2012. -@FanieFLK
