#ATTACK: Man shot by terrorists at home in Akasia, Potgietersrus

A 37-year-old man was shot on Friday night in Akasia during yet another attempted house robbery by three armed suspects

MOKOPANE – A 37-year-old man was shot on Friday night in Akasia during yet another attempted house robbery by three armed suspects.

“We as residents of Mokopane are living in fear as the town has become a crime hot spot, with daily armed house robberies,” concerned residents said.

Casim Icraam (26) told Bosveld at around 20:15 on 11 December his neighbours informed him that they had heard a noise in the backyard. “I went to investigate and found three suspects in the corner of my backyard in Flamboyant Circle, they immediately stood up and pointed a firearm at me and demanded me to come closer. I thought of my wife and kids that were in the house so I turned around running. They fired a shot at me, but luckily missed.” Icraam said his assailants tried to kick the door down, when a neighbour approached their house to investigate after hearing the noise, when the suspect fired a shot at him and luckily missed again. The three suspects fled the scene.

Mokopane Police Spokesperson, Sgt Irene Masingi, said Layman Anjin who was walking on the corner of Flamboyant and Mispel Street at that moment heard the sound of a gun shot and within seconds he was hit by the bullet on his right leg.

He was rushed to the Mokopane Hospital and is in recovery.

Icraam said all three of the suspects were wearing blue overalls, one of the suspects had a firearm, one a knife and the third suspect a crow-bar.

At 00:25 the suspects struck at another house in Mispel Street. Abid Patel (36) told Bosveld he was sleeping when he was awoken by a noise.

“I went to have a look and found that one of the windows were broken. I immediately called my brother and within minutes residents rushed to help. I only saw one suspect and he fired a shot and ran off.” Patel further said that about 50 residents from Akasia searched for the suspects as they knew they still had to be in the area. “At around 02:00 the suspects shot three warning shots and we dispersed from the scene, as we were not armed and the suspects fled into the bush.”

Sgt Masingi said a case of attempted murder has been opened. No arrests have as yet been made and an investigation is ongoing. http://reviewonline.co.za/125911/attempted-robbery-in-akasia/
