A 150 students and 13 workers from the University of Johannesburg spent the day in Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court and were released with all charges dropped on 9 November.

The students and workers were in court after they were arrested on 6 November for contravening a court order obtained by the university.

Two buses did however, get burned down in Johannesburg CBD and in Braamfontein. Student Lindokuhle Xulu said, “We suspect that it was the work of other students who believe in using violence and are working on their own.” He also added that there were no injuries and that the students that were arrested are still suspended by the university.
