Benoni SAPS spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said a male was in the area – which is just off Snake Road – when four men approached him at around 5.30pm.
Sekele said the robbers were wielding a small knife, panga, rock and a stick.
She said they allegedly assaulted the man and stole a cell phone, wallet and iPad.
Police believe the victim was in the area to dump items in the veld.
An ER24 paramedic who was on scene told the City Times the man sustained a laceration to his head and his right ear.
The victim, who is believed to be in his 50s, was transported to the Life the Glynnwood Hospital with moderate injuries.
Danie Taljaard Park has for years been a dangerous area.
On June 16, a couple and their three-year-old daughter were robbed of their possessions at the park.
Sekele cautioned the community not to visit the park and surrounding areas.
“Don’t go there; not even to dump goods, it is very, very dangerous” said Sekele.
“I don’t know why people go to that place – it’s very dangerous – especially at that time of the afternoon.”
A skeleton docket has been opened at the Benoni Police Station and no arrests have been made.
