A photo shoot almost turned deadly at Banana Beach on Sunday.
Local model Ashton Chapman’s portfolio shoot with photographer Andre du Toit from Envisions Photography went off without a hitch before the two men and Chapman’s mother Angelique left the beach.
On their way back to their vehicles, two men walked past them. The men suddenly attacked them from behind with knives, with a third soon joining in.
The victims were able to escape unscathed as the men ran off with Du Toit’s camera equipment and Angelique’s cell phone.
Du Toit told eHowzit: “I was able to fend off one of the men while the other went after Ashton and Angelique. I slipped on the sand when I tried to help them and both men jumped on top of me.
“Ashton came to help me and Angelique managed to run away and call for help. A third black man came and they tried to break into a car. Luckily, people rushed to our aid and the men ran off on the train tracks.”
The area where the attack took place.

“The police were fantastic. They arrived within 10 minutes and did an excellent job,” said Du Toit.
He said he was grateful to be alive and warned the public to be vigilant.
“I thank God that we’re okay, especially Ashton and Angelique. We had seen the two men on the beach, but who knew they would do such a thing?
“The police told us there had been a similar incident at Pumula an hour earlier, so this seemingly happens a lot.
“Hopefully this creates awareness and prevents others from going through something like this.”
