BREAKING NEWS: Elderly dies from a heart attack during a robbery in Robertsham
JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – An elderly man in his 70s died from an alleged heart attack during a robbery in Robertsham‘s Kimberly Road around 11:00.
The suspect is said to have attacked the elderly man at his home to rob him of his belongings but the man died afterwards. The real cause of death is not confirmed but people on the scene suspected it could have been a heart attack as the victim’s body had no signs of visible injuries.
A source who asked to remain anonymous said: “A patrol officer from a security company arrived on scene with a pellet gun. That is disappointing because the suspect took the pellet gun from him and smacked him around before fleeing the scene on foot towards the highway.”
Booysens SAPS’ Communications Officer, Warrant Officer Lorraine van Emmerik, said the police were on scene and will determine the exact cause of death by Friday September 10.
An official from SA Rangers Security said: “The man was not a patrol officer from SA Rangers. He is a member of the community patrolling officers and could have gone to the scene with a pellet gun because he wanted to help”.
According to the official, the suspects was walking around the neighbourhood acting as if he was begging for food. “The elderly man opened for him with intentions to help but the suspects started acting aggressively. A suspecting neighbour witnessed this and waved a passing motorist who phoned SA Rangers Security,” said the official who asked not to be named.
SA Rangers Security patrolling officers later attended the scene even though the elderly man was not one of their clients. “We work closely with community patrollers and we do attend to scenes to help even when someone is not our client,” he concluded. http://southerncourier.co.za/72926/breaking-news-elderly-dies-from-a-heart-attack-during-a-robbery-in-robertsham/
